Research

  • Research Seminar: Students will take this course to develop skills in scientific writing, oral presentation, and analysis of technical documents. In this seminar, students will examine a problem selected by the instructor and develop research proposals to investigate it. Critical reading of available literature will be emphasized as well as technical writing.

  • Undergraduate Research: Every student in the program at UB will participate in research in a faculty member's research group. The students utilize the information from Research Seminar to develop and then conduct research. Subsequently, results will be written up and presented in weekly seminars. The students will be paid on an hourly wage to encourage their participation.

  • Summer Research: This voluntary element of the program will provide research support for students by allowing them to participate in ongoing research projects in the UB Geology Department over the summers.

  • Independent Study for High School Students: Program participants can earn college credit for their internship while completing high school.
