A limited number of research and education based internships are available each semester. Students can choose from Earth Science education and outreach, scientific research placements, or a combination of both research and teaching.

Once accepted into the program, interns will have the opportunity to choose from the many disciplines within Geology including Environmental Geophysics, Paleontology, Structural Geology, Volcanology, Paleoclimatology, and Groundwater Hydrology.

For those pursuing a career in Earth Science education, we have a number of local opportunities available involving public instruction at the Buffalo Museum of Science.

We are currently seeking summer interns to help at Penn Dixie Outdoor Education Center in Hamburg, NY. If you like fossils, working outdoors, and teaching children, this is the internship for you! For more information check out the Penn Dixie website.
To qualify you must
-
Be enrolled at Erie Community College, Buffalo State College, the University at Buffalo, or a local college or high school
-
Successfully apply to the Buffalo Geosciences Program (BGP)

Be placed in a teaching or research field within the program

Meet regularly with your project advisor and BGP staff
Pay range
-
Starting pay is $8.50/hr during the school year
-
Earn $2,400+ over 8-12 weeks as a summer research assistant

Performance will be evaluated each semester

Your introductory geology course textbooks will be provided while you are enrolled in the program and working towards a degree

Field trip and travel costs will be covered by the program

Laptop computers will be available for student loan

You may also be eligible for special financial aid through the University at Buffalo, Buffalo State College, or many national scholarships such as the AGI Minority Participation Program.
