Outreach

  • In 2005 to date, student interns have given over 50 unique geoscience presentations to a variety of community audiences. These presentations are entirely produced by undergraduate and high school students in the program and include lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on activities centered around geoscience themes. Outreach has taken place at UB, ECC, the Buffalo Museum of Science, Penn Dixie Outdoor Education Center, Erie County Libraries, and several public high schools in the city of Buffalo.

  • Thousands of Buffalo students from grades K-12 have received distinctive instruction and educational materials as a result of the program. Today, the program employs 24 student interns, two graduate assistants, two undergraduate assistants, an instructor, and a tutor at UB. New projects are underway to “adopt” a high school classroom in Fall 2005 and work more closely with the public libraries on geoscience curriculum implementation.
